Quercetin is a plant pigment found in many foods such as onions, apples, berries, tea, grapes and red wine. It's not a nutrient, but is classified as a flavonoid. These flavonoids are what give fruits and vegetables their vibrant color. Flavonoids such as quercetin are antioxidants -- they scavenge damaging particles in the body known as free radicals. Quercetin is unique in that it is more potent than common bioflavonoid complexes and contains no citrus allergens. It is a natural antioxidant and an active derivative of the bioflavonoid rutin.*
Bromelain is a proteolytic enzyme which means that it assists in the digestion of proteins. Bromelain has also been shown to support healthy histamine response and increase the activity of quercetin. Bromelain and quercetin work together synergistically, each enhances the activity of the other. It also may also support cardiovascular health. Bromelain is derived from pineapples. *
