5 Things That Are Stopping You From Losing Weight

1. Not Enough Sleep

I’ve gone into this before, but don’t underestimate the power of sleep. Have too little and your body can’t function properly, have too much, and it messes up your internal clock. Studies state that the optimal amount of sleep is 6 to 7 hours for proper functionality and weight loss (along with the right diet and exercise).

2. Eating too little

When you don’t eat enough, your body goes into starvation mode, and will lock onto to anything you give it and hold on to it for reserves. It is very hard to burn these “reserves” off, and anyone that has a history of under-eating or fad diets, knows what I’m talking about. Under-eating also slows down your metabolism and makes you more likely to binge at yor next meal.

3. Skipping Breakfast

The most important meal to eat is breakfast. DO NOT SKIP. A study found that people who skipped breakfast were 4.5 times more likely to be obese. I often hear “But I’m not hungry in the mornings”. Have some drinkable yogurt to start and work your body back into being hungry in the mornings. Make sure that you have something packed with fiber, protein, and nutrients. Think homemade oatmeal, yogurt and nuts, eggs, bananas, etc. Stay far away from cereals (that's even for Special K), sweet spreads (no, Nutella is not a healthy option), and fry ups.

4. White Bread

There is nothing, I repeat, nothing, good about white bread. Oh, except how it tastes. Save this for treat days, but get it out of your pantry, and stop ordering it at Subway. Replace with brown breads, packed with grains, wheat, unrefined flour and fiber!

5. Drinking fizzy drinks (including diet ones)

I used to be guilty of drinking diet (adopted from my Atkins and weight watcher days) when I could. I actually would start craving diet coke. Not good. I decided a few months ago to cut out all soft drinks (when possible). Why is diet so bad? Where to start….not only are artificial sweeteners, well artificial, studies have shown that they can also lead to weight GAIN, causing you to eat when you’re not hungry at meals, and make you crave sweet drinks later in the day (guilty!). As for non-diet drinks, well I hope after watching this, I won’t have to say more… Gross.
